Honorary members

The Association recognizes the need to highlight certain individuals (there are so many others) who have made a significant contribution to the objectives of the Association and to the promotion and reunion of the Acadian descendants of Olivier Daigre and Marie Gaudet. Our honorary members have either 1) helped promote and bring together the Acadian descendants of Olivier Daigre and Marie Gaudet and/or 2) publicized the origin and history of the Daigle, Daigre, D’Aigle, Desgre and Deagle families. We are very proud to present five remarkable individuals, our first honorary members, who have contributed greatly to the promotion of our Daigle family history and culture:

  • Israël Daigle – Our founding president, took the initiative of forming a committee to bring together the Daigle families of the Kent County region in 1983, and remained president for 6 years.
  • Alvin Daigle of Aldouane, near Richibucto, accepted the presidency of the DAIGLE family committee from 1994 to 2004 during the first Congrès Mondial Acadien. What’s more, Mr. Daigle had already begun his own research into the Daigle family tree to celebrate the 200th anniversary (1790-1990) of the Daigles’ arrival in Kent County.
  • Germaine Comeau, formerly of Aldouane, now lives in Moncton. Her ancestors include a former Militia captain, François Joseph Daigle senior. Mrs. Comeau was president of our Daigle Family Committee for 14 years, from 2004 to 2018. We would like to thank Mrs. Comeau for her many years of dedicated service.
  • Zella Layden – After a long career in teaching, Mrs. Layden of Acadieville, NB, took a keen interest in genealogy, publishing several books, including on the first and second groups of pioneers who arrived in Acadieville and their descendants. Together with her brother, the late Normand Robichaud, a fisherman from Pointe-Sapin, NB, they published the genealogy of the Daigle families of Pointe-Sapin and Baie-Ste-Anne. Robichaud was also president of a Métis lineage group.
  • Bernadette Daigle – Native of St-Charles, NB. Educated at the Université de Montréal, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in History. A retired teacher, she is interested in genealogy, being a member of the Société généalogique canadienne française de Montréal. In her book “L’ODYSSÉE DES FAMILLES DAIGLE”, she tells us about the deportation of the Acadians as experienced by the descendants of Olivier Daigre and Marie Gaudet.
